What the play is about:
The first three acts of the play are filled with intense psychological drama as the King of Sicily behaves in a paranoid manner, and demands that his baby daughter be exposed in a desert to die, and his wife is imprisoned. The last two acts are comedic and tell of the daughter’s survival as a shepherd’s ‘daughter’, her marriage with the local king’s son, and her eventual reunification with her father and mother.
