The Merry Wives of Windsor Cast list for 20 players (original cast)

Play Index & Help

This cast list is  derived  from T.J.King’s Casting Shakespeare’s Plays – London actors and their roles, 1590 – 1642. It is the original cast list of the First Folio edition,

Assuming that the number of lines spoken are a rough indication of a character’s importance in the play, there are a few points of interest:

  • Evans is the third largest male part, smaller only than Falstaff and Ford, but larger than Page.
  • Mistress Quickly is the second largest female part, smaller than Mistress Page, but larger than Mistress Ford
  • Slender is a larger part than Justice Shallow or Doctor Caius

This cast list can  be used for play-readings or performance. It requires 20  players to read The Merry Wives of Windsor and is performable. Each player, selects the Player No they’ve been allocated, and can choose to read their parts in  Highlit text format, or Parts and Cues, as the prefer.
